Biography

Amy Catherine Walton is a South African born jazz singer/songwriter, pianist, vocal coach and studio session singer.

​

Born into a musical family, Amy studied and graduated from the South African College of Music with a B.Mus. degree in Jazz Performance and Arranging. Having won both academic and performance based awards, she was featured regularly with the University of Cape Town’s Big Band as well as the UCT Jazz voices vocal ensemble that won a national competition in 2015.

​

Known her for unique sense of harmony, Amy not only composes original material of different genres, but gives a new perspective to Jazz standards with her arranging style.

She has performed in many high profiled events, including the Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture and The Old Mutual Annual Charity Ball with the Cape Town Pops Orchestra to name a few. She has performed backing vocals for top South African bands and international band Collective Soul. In 2015, was invited to be a featured soloist with the Kwa-Zulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Since relocating to London in 2016, Amy has recorded with renowned British Jazz musicians, Laurence Cottle and Ralph Salmins. She has performed around the UK at Jazz clubs and festivals with her own original material and arrangements. She is part of an authentic and sought after 1940s vocal trio, The Belladonna Brigade as well as the singer of Bella and Bourbon Boys, a highly sought after function band performing all over the UK.

She is a peripatetic music teacher and workshop facilitator around different care homes and community centres around London and is always inspired to see how music can move people from all walks of life.
